The Astonishing Truth about Social Media Success (It's Like Magic)
And my current favourite book.
In the social media business, we talk, write, and discuss a lot about “KPIs.”
Key
Performance
Indicator
These are measurable values that show whether the marketing strategy is working to reach your goals or not.
Examples of goals:
More traffic
More reach
More engagement
More followers
But when your content sucks, none of these KPIs will be reached.
Here are four new ones you should check before you create content and publish:
Keep People Involved
Ask questions, take them with you in your decision-making, share their content, and mention them. Grab their hands.
For example:
“I’m thinking about starting a design company. Any advice from experienced founders?”Keep People Informed
Help your audience understand your products, services, and journey. Share knowledge and experiences. Don’t hide them.
For example:
“Starting a company is quite complicated on an admin level. There are so many things to consider, like [insert list]. Anything Ieft out?”Keep People Interested
Share developments taking place in your area and why these could be interesting to them.
For example:
“I think AI will not only transform how designers work, it will change how they will get inspired too [insert ways to get inspired by AI].”Keep People Inspired
You should think of yourself five years ago. What would have helped you? What would have lifted you?
Share these things with your past self - but online.
For example:
“I wish I had studied more about what these design gods did [insert names] before I started my journey because [insert reasons]. This would have helped me to save a ton of time.”
If you can check at least one of those four new KPIs consistently with your content, all the other “old” KPIs will follow.
Key Takeaway: Bring added value to the users. They will bring it back to you.
My Current Favourite Book

This is a book written by the man himself, David Ogilvy.
He was a man often called the "Father of Advertising." Born in 1911 in England, he founded Ogilvy & Mather, a primary advertising agency, in 1948. Ogilvy was known for his creative and effective advertising campaigns, and he believed in clear, direct communication based on research. Some of his most famous ads were for products like Rolls-Royce and Schweppes.
Told with brutal honesty and extravagant generosity, he reveals in his book published in 1985:
• How to get a job in advertising
• How to choose an agency for your product
• The secrets behind advertising that works
• How to write successful copy—and get people to read it
• Eighteen miracles of research
• What advertising can do for charities
And much, much more.
It is a breeze to read: hard facts, word for word. No fillers, just killers.
